New to the Pittsburgh Marathon this year is the Steel Challenge. If you’re running any of the races on Sunday, May 3–full marathon, half marathon, or relay–and run the 5K on Saturday, May 2, you complete the challenge and earn three medals. You’ll get one medal for each race plus a third one for doing the challenge.
I did the 5K last year, and it was a lot of fun! I just registered to do it this year too. I have two miles at race pace scheduled for Saturday, so my plan will be to run the first mile as an easy warm-up mile and then the rest at race pace.
If you aren’t sure about doing the 5K because you don’t want to wear yourself out for Sunday’s race, register and run with me. I’ll make sure you go slow, and we’ll have fun!
You should have received a code from your original race registration to get a $10 discount for the 5K. More details are on the Pittsburgh Marathon website.
Also, Steff has organized a meet up/tweet up before the 5K race. We’ll all be meeting at 7:30 at the start line before the 8 a.m. start. Details are on her blog. Can’t wait to chat with everyone before the race!
So come out for the meet up and for a fun 5K that’s guaranteed to get you excited for Sunday’s race!
