One of the biggest benefits to living where I do in the city is being able to walk to so many different places. It’s about a 20-minute walk from our house on the Northside to Downtown Pittsburgh–though, of course, it takes a lot longer when we have the dog with us because of all of his sniffing and pee stops. I used to work Downtown and didn’t love it. The all-out daily war between pedestrians and cars drives me nuts! And don’t even get me started about having to walk through clouds of smoke from all the smokers at the bus stops–which seem to be a ridiculous 10-feet apart in the city. But I love walking through the city in the evenings and on weekends, when there are much less people and a more chill vibe. Many people only venture to the city when there’s a special event, which brings its own headaches with traffic, parking, and not being able to find a place to eat. I love that we can walk to Downtown easily without all the headaches.
At the end of January we had a beautiful weekend with temps in the 50s. I walked Django to Downtown to meet my husband who was finishing work, and we took a nice walk through the city and then back home. I wore my Michi Hydra Crop Leggings (my review), Alala Open Mesh Longleeve Tee (my review), and Lululemon Wee Stripe White Cool Racerback under it. I carried my Lululemon Run All Day Backpack, which I use on pretty much every long walk and hike. It easily fits all the essentials–water bottles for me and the dog, poop bags, phone, sunglasses, tissue, lip balm, Halt! pepper spray for attacking dogs, plus a scarf or extra layer–but is pretty compact and comfortable. It also has smart storage with lots of different pockets. I love this pack! In my pack I had a Lulu Vinyasa Scarf to put over my shoulders when it got chilly in the shade. I pretty much always have a Vinyasa Scarf with me to use as a wrap or blanket. I wore my Asics Metrowalk Walking Shoes. They’re lightweight, slim-fitting, and made to be worn without socks. The grey and black color goes with pretty much everything I have.
Here are some pictures my husband took that day. Django hates to stop for pictures because he’s always on a sniff-and-pee mission, so you’ll notice he did his best to avoid looking at the camera in most shots!
