Last month I placed an order with Albion Fit. I bought a few tops from their store when I was in Salt Lake City last year and really liked them. Earlier this year I read their blog post about how Albion got started and was not only fascinated, but I also felt compelled to support the company. Please read the full blog post yourself, but the gist is that Liz Findlay, the Albion founder, had many connections to Guatemala. Her mother was from there, and her family moved there when her father retired. When retirement didn’t suit her dad, he bought a factory that sewed fitness clothes for many popular brands. When companies began moving their production from Central America to China, Liz and her husband, who had been learning the business, decided to design their own line of activewear and swimwear. Liz had known the Guatemalan workers at the factory since she was 8 years old, so having their own line that generated year-round work without being dependent on large corporations was a way to keep her team employed and the business going. And that’s how Albion was born!
I loved that story so much. I’ve been interesting in the manufacturing process but hadn’t previously thought about the people sewing the clothes I wear. I love that the Albion founder’s family has such a personal connection to those employed at the factory. I’d been holding out for a sale for some things I’d been looking at on the website, but after reading this story I felt happy to support Albion!
Unfortunately–not the fault of Albion at all–my package got lost in the mail. If it wasn’t my package, it would have been comical to watch the tracking updates every day to see where it showed up. Just when I thought it was lost forever, I got it several weeks after I placed my order. It was worth the wait because I couldn’t be happier with everything. In fact, these are my favorite pieces in my closet right now! These are all fall products, but I’ve already worn them tons in the cool weather of the past week. (Note: These photos are on my roof, which has a view of Downtown Pittsburgh.)
Go Long Crew
I bought the Go Long Crew in Charcoal. I have this top in Mint and Sweet Stripe and love them. My full review is here, but they’re stretchy and soft. I wear them to work and casually. My mint top has pilled a little, but it’s so soft I still wear it. The Charcoal color will go with everything.
I really wanted to try the Swing Top in the plum Fig shade, but it was sold out in small. Because it’s so oversized, I figured medium would be too big (I wear medium in the Go Long Crew). I also really liked the Merlot shade. I decided to order the Fig in medium and Merlot in small and return one. Ha. Once I got these tops, there was no way I was returning one! I think these might be my favorite tops. They’re the same soft fabric as in the Go Long Crew, and the design is just gorgeous. It’s swingy and drapey and unique. The Fig in medium is a little longer, but the fit is really similar in both the small and medium. I have worn this top to work and on a night out and got compliments on it each time I wore it. I love how it looks with the Go Long Crew under it. It looks great with skinny jeans and heels. And it’s lightweight enough that I can wear it in summer on its own. LOVE!
I also got the Unwind Pullover in Lavender. The color is heathered and is somewhere between purple and blue. It’s extremely lightweight but a different fabric than the Go Long Crew and Swing Top. Unlike the soft cottony feel of those tops, the Unwind Pullover has a silky, slicker feel. It feels a bit more like typical activewear fabric. The description says it has chafe-free seams and can be worn on runs, so that’s probably why the fabric is different. I ordered medium, and the fit is really flattering, with a very slight a-line shape. It has a kangaroo pocket in front. It’s loose fitting, and the drapey cowlneck makes it more sophisticated. I really like that I can wear this top running or for casual wear.
Black Diamond Pant
I’m not sure how I made it through life without these pants! These faux leather leggings are simply the best. They’re stretchy, sexy, extremely comfortable, and make any top I wear with it a thousand times cooler. I have yet to try on a top that doesn’t work with these leggings. In just the week that I’ve had these, I’ve worn them to a party, out with friends, and to a bridal shower. I ordered a size medium because that was one of the only sizes still available (the other size is XXS), and it fits great. It’s a little looser than my other leggings, but that’s okay since I plan to only wear these casually and won’t have to worry about them falling down during workouts. The front has seams that create faux pockets, and the back has real pockets. Again LOVE!
I know I’m posting this so late when so many sizes are sold out, but do keep Albion Fit on your radar for the upcoming seasons. I know I will!
