I have a Banana Republic Credit Card and earn rewards good at any of the BR family of stores (BR, Gap, and Athleta). I had a ton of rewards saved up (actually, more than the four you can use at one time), so when Athleta had a sale in May I decided to try a few pieces I’ve had my eye on. I love them all!
Stripe Relay Capri
I’ll start with the run crop that’s gotten a lot of attention. I’ve been a Relay fan since I first started running. I love the matte, cotton-like fabric–which is hard to find among all the slick fabrics in running tights–because tops don’t ride up against them. And my two original pairs of Relays have held up extremely well after about six years of wear. I supplemented those two original Relays with the newer version when it came out last year. I loved the pockets but didn’t love the slicker fabric, which I heard was only in the patterns (review here). But honestly, I didn’t care much what the fabric was in the new stripe version because I loved it so much. I love stripes and had to try them out.
I bought the Stripe Relay Capri 2.0 in my regular size medium. The cuffs on the legs were a little tight, but otherwise they fit like my other Relays, though they are more compressive than the patterned version I bought last fall. The fabric is matte-feeling, which I really love. (The photos show a bit of shine because I have the flash on.) I wasn’t sure I’d like the contrasting pockets, but they’re very slimming.
There’s not too much to say that I haven’t already said in my other review, but overall these are a great run crop. The waistband is wide and comfortable, they don’t fall down, they’re flattering, and there are lots of pockets. I really love the stripe version and am happy to add them to my family of Relays.
High-Neck Shadow Stripe Chi Tank
The Chi Tank is Athleta’s standard, versatile workout tank, and they’ve released many different styles over the years. I have regular Chi Tanks, plus long-length, printed, mesh, and stripe versions. I wear them for everything, including running. The fabric is lighter weight, so I don’t find them too hot, unlike Lululemon’s standard workout Cool Racer Back tank, which I can’t run in because they make me too hot.
I liked the new high-neck style of the Chi Tank, so bought it in a size medium (my standard size) in the Beach Plum color.
The fit of the high-neck version is looser than the regular version. You can see the difference in the photos in this post. I like the style overall, including the higher neck and the slimmer racerback design. This is another great tank to add to my wardrobe.
Colorblock Mesh Salutation Capri
While I have a few of Athleta’s Chat tights and capris, I haven’t tried many of their other styles. I couldn’t resist trying the Colorblock Mesh Salutation Capri because I loved the style. Wow–I was surprised how much I loved these!
I bought these in size medium. They are slightly compressive and flattering, but not overly so. They have a high rise with a hidden key pocket and are extremely comfortable. The fabric is Athleta’s new Powervita fabric, which is really nice. It’s incredibly soft, almost velvety, matte, and lightweight. I really love this new fabric and will keep my eye out for other styles that come out in this fabric.
Chi Tank in Abyss
Earlier this year, I bought my mom a Breezy Tank in Abyss as a gift and loved the color–a really pretty ocean-green-grey shade. I really wanted a tank in the same color so got it in the Chi Tank. Again, not much to say about the Chi that I haven’t said a million times, but I have so many of these because I wear them so much. They’re soft, comfortable, not too hot, and I can wear them for everything. I ordered my usual size medium, which you can see in the above photos is a slimmer fit than the high-neck version.
Airy Essence Tank
Lastly, I got the new Airy Essence Tank, also in medium. The tank has a longer length and loose fit. The fabric is very lightweight and extremely soft. It also has the unstinkable technology. I wore this tank to walk to and from the Arts Festival Downtown in hot, 80-degree weather, and loved the way it felt. I stayed comfortable and appreciated the airflow from the tank. I plan to also wear this tank running since I think it will help keep me cool on hot days.
The only thing I wasn’t thrilled about was that the slate grey heather color I ordered wasn’t uniformly grey (as the website photo shows). The mesh detail on the front and down the back are white. I was looking for an all-grey tank, but now that the surprise faded, I don’t mind the white. Grey and white are cornerstones in my workout wardrobe, so I’ll be able to wear this tank with just about any color bottom.
What a nice haul! I was excited to add some really great new pieces to my wardrobe that I know I’ll wear a lot. Have you tried anything from Athleta recently?
