I’ve been on the hunt for a dark grey, relaxed-fit tank I can wear for both workouts and casual wear. Grey is one of the foundational colors of my workout wardrobe palette, but most of my grey tanks are lighter and don’t transition to casual wear easily.
Carbon38 stocks activewear from a variety of small, independent brands. I always like to check their site for new styles and new brands. They released their own Carbon38 brand about a year ago. When I saw the perfect grey tank from Carbon38’s own label, I was excited to try it.
The description for the Charge Tank says the material is super soft. I’m not sure I’d agree. It’s not scratchy, but it’s definitely not on par with the “super soft” fabrics from Athleta and Beyond Yoga. However, the fabric is very different, and I really like it. It’s close knit and stretchy. It’s not lightweight and is more medium weight, though it doesn’t feel heavy. Instead, the weight of it makes it more structured rather than warm. I don’t see a problem wearing it on hot days during the summer.
The tank delivers on its description of a relaxed fit. I ordered a size medium. It’s a straight fit and, because of the material, is structured with slight draping instead of very loose. The plus side of a more structured style is that it doesn’t show lumps and bumps like flowy material does.
I’m loving high-neck styles in general, so really like the style of this tank. (The website description says it’s a scoop neck, which is definitely not accurate!) The design has some some unique features. First, the armholes are cut out very deeply. It shows not just the sides of the bra, but a bit of skin below the bra too. This will help with airflow on hot summer days. Second, there’s a subtle darting detail on the racerback. It makes the tank a little more sophisticated than typical workout tanks. These days, especially as I get older, I favor subtle and sophisticated designs over loud and wacky ones.
Between the fabric, relaxed fit, and sophisticated style, I think this tank has a lot of quality for a price point similar to brands like Athleta and the lower end of Lululemon. Based on the quality of this tank, I’d definitely try more from the Carbon38 brand. It’s also perfect for casual wear. It’s a keeper for me!
